Woodworking in a Small Space (It’s Actually Really Doable)
Woodworking is incredibly rewarding. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of taking raw wood and turning it into something beautiful.
Unfortunately, many people think that woodworking is something you can only do if you have a large space, which is why I’m writing this post today.
I’m here to reassure you that woodworking in a small space is not only possible, but it’s actually really doable.
You might be wondering how that’s possible. I mean, surely the size of your space determines what you can and can’t do, right?
Actually, there’s one single factor that determines what you can and can’t do in woodworking, and that factor isn’t how much space you have.
It’s your woodwork bench.
The Secret to Woodworking in a Small Space
Most people wrongly think that the necessary tool for woodworking is your table saw, but that’s only because they don’t know the truth.
You don’t need a table saw at all. In fact, you don’t need any big tools. All you need is a woodwork bench.
The reason why I say you don’t need a table saw is because a table saw is a big tool. It’s the size of a table, after all and takes up a lot of space. It’s also really expensive, and requires a lot of maintenance.
On the other hand, a woodwork bench is a small tool that’s the size of a table, but doesn’t take up more room than a table would. It’s also really cheap, and requires no maintenance.
Most importantly, a woodwork bench is really versatile. You can use it to do anything you would with a table saw, and a lot more.
The Woodwork bench: Your Most Important Tool
The key to woodworking in a small space is to only have small tools.
Now, when I say “small tools,” I don’t mean in size, but rather in the amount of space they take up.
A woodwork bench is a tool that’s the size of a table, but also serves as a workbench. That’s why it’s called a “woodwork bench.”
A woodwork bench is just a normal workbench that has a wood vise attached to it. The wood vise is the key to its versatility.
You see, the wood vise works just like a table saw does. You can use it to rip wood, crosscut wood, and do the whole range of sawing work that a table saw does. However, the big advantage of a woodwork bench is that the wood vise can be adjusted to any angle, so you can do all of that work on an angle.
That’s the secret to getting the most out of your small space. Use the woodwork bench to do all of the work that you would with a table saw, but adjust the angle of your wood vise to match the angle of your wood. It’s that simple.
Of course, you’ll need to have a few different saws to do this. You’ll need a rip cut saw for ripping with the grain, and a crosscut saw for cutting against the grain. However, since saws are so small, they’re not a problem if you’re trying to work in a small space. They take up less space than a book.
In fact, saws are the only big tool you’ll have if you’re working in a small space. Everything else is small enough that it takes up less space than a book on your shelf.
